Bad Blogger!

Kevin & Leah and Dawn & I at Angela's Wedding
So yes I have been a bad blogger. I haven't posted anything since early July when my Upward Bound kids got 1st place at the Academic bowl. A lot has happened since then.
I took the UB kids on their end of summer trip to Oklahoma City. We visited 3 colleges, a couple museums, and a water park. The Water park was a great afternoon because it was only 109 degrees that day in OKC. So it worked out very well.

After getting back to Texas and Upward Bound was completely over, Dawn and I joined up with 4 other couples and we went to Cozumel for our annual friends trip. Cozumel was a great time. I will do a post on it a little later with more pictures. But all in all, it was a great little vacation.
Soon after, I ventured down to San Marcos for our 11th annual Student Leadership Conference for the state of Texas TRIO programs. It went really well and we had 141 student in attendance at Texas State University.

August then arrived with a wedding to attend on August 1st. Dawn and I went to Denton for a wedding of an old college friend that I went to Tarleton with. Leigh Anne didn't finish at Tarleton, as she left early to finish at A&M. But she had a great wedding and it was very nice to see some of the old folks that I first hung out with at Tarleton when I was a freshman and sophomore. August was definitely a wedding month for us as we went to 3 of them this month.
The second weekend of August, I had a SWASAP board meeting in Corpus Christi. Following the meeting, I met up with Dawn and the kids in Weimar. We attending the wedding of a Angela and Carl. Angela and I have been lifelong friends and her wedding was a blast. The whole family was invited and we danced and enjoyed our time at that wedding.
The next week was not as busy for once but we did venture over to Possum Kingdom lake to hang out with our friends that we went to Cozumel with. This time the kids were invited. We spent the day on the lake and letting the kids play in the water and everywhere else. It was a very fun weekend.
The 4th weekend of August was preceded by my trip to Abilene for a TASSSP board meeting. Hudson went with me and hung out with Mimo (Dawn's Mom) while I met in Abilene. They had a great time and enjoyed themselves.
And then finally this past week/weekend I was off for a few days to use up my vacation. Part of the vacation was a trip back down to Weimar to attend the last wedding of the month for us. My good friend Chris got married in Edna, TX. Cory and Holly joined up with us in Victoria to celebrate the nuptials of Chris and Cari. We had another great night dancing and enjoying the evening.
So now you can see, I have not been avoiding my blog but I haven't been in one place long enough to write anything. So here's to me getting the Cozumel trip and other photos uploaded and a few more blogs added before too long.
And Look out doves! I am coming to Opland this weekend to attempt to knock you down as I go dove hunting for the 4th annual Dove Huntapalooza

Upward Bound Academic Bowl 2009

Team Photo (including Clyde the Coyote)

This past weekend my students and I participated in Academic Bowl 2009 on the campus of University of Texas at Arlington. Weatherford College Upward Bound participated in volleyball, basketball, and softball on the athletic side and in many academic competitions.

Last year was the first year for Weatherford College to participate in this event. We are also the smallest in numbers group that participates also. But this year, we had a goal in mind and we accomplished our goal of coming away with at least one 1st place trophy. The softball team won the championship and broke the 8 year streak of Tarleton State winning the event. I was the head coach for this team and was very proud of these kids for persevering and taking on the challenge of playing as a team. So I just wanted to brag a bit about them and all of the other kids. On the academic side, we did have two teams place and one second place individual. So we are making progress and will plan to do a better job next year.

Reggie and Val's Wedding

Two weekends ago, Dawn and I attended the wedding reception of one of my best friends from Tarleton. Reggie and Valerie were officially wed in Las Vegas on June 6, 2009. We of course, could not make the wedding due to it being Upward Bound season for me. But luckily, they had a reception in Stephenville on the evening of June 13, 2009.

Reggie and Valerie are the parents of Brinley. They made their marriage official now and we had a grand ol time of a party at the reception. Reggie was a Purple Poo with me and we even officially sang Valerie into the Purple Poo family.

Reggie is one of a good group of corp guys that all hung out together while in college and now out of college also..Lto R: Chris (Lubbock), Chad (Mansfield), Casey (Stephenville), Reggie (the Groom), Myself, Jamie aka The Hammer (Stephenville).

We all had a great time and reminisced a bit before calling it a night. That was our weekend June 13, 2009

Update

We have been rather busy lately. Upward Bound has started again for myself and that makes me very busy.
Last weekend, we attended a birthday party for Laura in Mineral Wells. Laura is the wife of Bob (one of my old roommates).
We dined on fajitas and Hudson ran all over their place. But the first thing he saw was their horse. He was enthralled with feeding the horse and petting it. Hudson enjoyed playing with it and also with the dogs.
Hudson began swimming lessons this week also. He really enjoys jumping and splashing and everything else associated with the water. He is pretty much a fish.
Quinn is not old enough for lessons yet but she growing up fast. She has a few teeth now and you can see by the pictures that she is chewing on things now. She is crawling along the floor and definitely figured out how to get our attention with her grunting and other noises.
This weekend we will be heading down to Stephenville for a wedding reception for my friend Reggie and Valerie. The kids are hanging back with Granny. My Mom has been up here all week as our day care lady has been on a vacation for the week. So it worked out well. I know that Granny has enjoyed playing with them.
Hopefully I can make a faster post next time.

Its Been A Busy One

Its been a couple weeks since I have posted anything. Well I know you are not surprised that we have been busy but its that time of year for me.

Summer Upward Bound begins in 2 weeks as the seniors move in to begin their college careers. At this point, I am still searching for teachers to hire. So if you know a good foreign language teacher and a good technology teacher, please put them in contact with me.
We had our Summer Showcase on Saturday and had a great turnout for it. I am really looking forward to a new and exciting summer with many new staff members. But I also know that this will put me up at campus a lot more than being at home with Dawn and the kids.
As for this weekend, Dawn headed west to Big Spring, TX for a wedding that she was in. It was for the sister of a good friend of Dawn's. So Dawn loaded up the kids to stay in Midland with her sister Kathy and they headed west on Friday. As for me, I had the showcase on Saturday and that evening I ventured to Fort Worth to celebrate at a bachelor party for my good friend Reggie.
Reggie was in our wedding and now he is getting married in June in Vegas. I can't make it to Vegas but luckily he had a bachelor party and there will be a reception in Stephenville in a few weeks for the happy couple. So there were about 10 of us that hung out and had a great time with Reggie. That will be all the details that I dole out on this one.
So lets hope for some new teachers and make these weeks of planning go well. And yes its going to stay busy for a while.

Zoo Trip 2009
